The Phoenix Suns are interested in re-signing former Oregon Ducks star Bol Bol

Bol Bol’s output dropped during his debut season with the Phoenix Suns last season, compared to his breakout year with the Orlando Magic in 2022-23.

Bol’s points, rebounds, and minutes all reduced under previous head coach Frank Vogel last season, but those figures may not have fully reflected his progress. According to Forbes Sports’ Evan Sidery, the Suns believe Bol has promise and want to re-sign him.

Bol played only 10.9 minutes per game under Vogel, compared to a career-high 21.5 minutes with Orlando. Vogel was fired following the season, and the Suns hired Mike Budenholzer. According to Sidery, Bol could see an enlarged role and more minutes under Budenholzer in 2024-25.

Last season, Bol averaged 5.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks per game, a significant dip from 9.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game with the Magic. Bol, on the other hand, had career highs of 61.6% from the field and 42.3% on three-pointers. Bol’s development from beyond the arc might make him a viable option as a stretch big man in Budenhlzer’s offensive scheme. When Budenholzer was the Milwaukee Bucks’ coach, Brook Lopez remade himself as a stretch big man capable of shooting threes.

Perhaps more importantly, Sidery stated that stars Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal have all lauded Bol’s work ethic this season. Durant and Beal have been vocal boosters of Bol this season, complementing his demeanor and dedication to the game on and off the court.

The Suns, who are financially tight due to the massive salaries of Durant, Booker, and Beal, can only offer Bol a minimum contract. Bol will likely receive more lucrative offers, but the Suns can give him a larger and more consistent position on the team next season.

In addition, Bol rapidly became a fan favorite in Phoenix, which may appeal to him.
