Vincent Kompany was presented as Bayern Munich’s new manager this morning and immediately got down to business during his news conference.
The new leader admits that he understands what he has gotten himself into by choosing such a high-profile position.
“I understand how important a club Bayern is. I’m proud, but also extremely motivated to be here. As far as I’m concerned, the season can begin immediately,” Kompany stated (as caught by @iMiaSanMia). “I am so busy with my job that I don’t have much time for (being startled by Bayern’s employment offer). Max (Eberl) and Christoph (Freund) convinced me right away, followed by the rest of the group.”
Kompany, like almost everyone else, has heard rumors that not every board member at Bayern Munich supports his appointment, but this does not disturb him.
“At top clubs like Bayern, you must stand together internally. I’m not concerned with what the rest of the world thinks. I coached one of Belgium’s youngest and England’s smallest squads. What I bring to the table is something that will assist the players progress. Kompany stated, “I have a clear vision and will implement it here in Germany.” “Pressure from the outside has never impressed me. I respect that individuals have opinions. What I can control is my work and the players. If we are the best, the entire world will follow us. You can ask me about pressure 10,000 times, and the response will remain the same. It’s not part of my life.”
Kompany has already began examining his squad, but he believes he will need more time to fully understand what he has in his arsenal at Bayern Munich.
“It’s still too early to discuss players. I am looking forward to working with them. I want to know how hungry the players are. Bayern did not win the championship last year, and I am familiar with that circumstance. “I’ll see which players are hungry enough to play for FC Bayern,” Kompany stated. “You must be on the same page internally, and I sensed that here. That is why I chose Bayern above the other possibilities. We set a Championship points record in our first year at Burnley, and we had one of the smallest budgets in our second season in the Premier League. We didn’t change much following the promotion; I gave it my all. I’ve remained the same. That’s why I have no plans to change here either.
“I grew up on the streets of Brussels and attended the Anderlecht academy. You must be a team; I want my guys to be courageous and combative. I want us to play like that; it also defines my character. We want to maintain that throughout the game.”
And, certainly, Kompany is aware of what is at risk next season, with the Champions League final due to take place in Munich.
“That makes this Champions League season possibly even more memorable than previous ones. I’m being honest about it. “But we won’t get there just by talking,” Kompany said.
The times are changing at Bayern Munich. Vincent Kompany appears to be taking over in Bavaria, while the club’s erstwhile favorite son, Hansi Flick, is moving to FC Barcelona. Which one will do better with their new club? We’ll find out, but in the meantime, some Bayern players may be on Flick’s transfer radar. Basically, we have a lot to speak about with all of that, as well as some gratitude for Bayer Leverkusen’s outstanding season.
