During OTAs, Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid discusses team culture and personal development

The 2023 first-round draft pick of the Bills stated that he has had a great time this offseason.

The Buffalo Bills’ 2023 first-round draft selection, Dalton Kincaid, addressed the media on Tuesday regarding the modifications made to the offense this season and his development as a player between his first and second training camps.

The tight end responded, “Obviously the room looks a lot different this year,” in response to a question concerning the offense and addressing the apparent: the wide receiver room was (nearly) completely remodeled by the Bills. “Just a bunch of really kind guys. That shift seems to have gone extremely well, in my opinion.

According to Kincaid, all of the “new guys” were fitting in and “meshing good” with the players who remained from the previous season’s offense, and head coach Sean McDermott’s carefully cultivated culture was being embraced by everybody.

In response to a question regarding the new emphasis under offensive coordinator Joe Brady—who is currently in his first offseason since taking over for his former boss in Week 11 of last season—Kincaid stated that he enjoys the “spread the ball around” strategy and that he would likely be a top target now that Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis have left Buffalo.

“I don’t think I’m the one. He remarked, “I believe we have a good number of offensive weapons. “You know, we’re going to let everyone go, and Josh will get the ball back to everyone.” It will be good to have a few additional goals this year, I believe.

When asked explicitly what changed after Brady assumed control of the offense in November, Kincaid stated that, above all, it was a mental shift.

He answered, “Joe’s been awesome in terms of his mentality and his energy every day.” It is communicative. I believe we can all agree that this offense feels like a complete.

Although the playbook has altered for this season, the second-year tight end acknowledged that having nearly the whole offense at OTAs helps with speedy implementation.

“We’ve made a lot of adjustments since last year, but I wouldn’t say [it changed] a ton,” Kincaid said. “I think it’s really helpful that he has the creativity and freedom to just try things out right now.”

In terms of calling plays and building a playbook around the players he has available rather than attempting to fit the pieces he has into an already established scheme, Kincaid said he could sense Brady’s growing comfort and confidence.

Regarding himself, Kincaid stated that his personal availability has made this year’s offseason distinct from last.

“I was hurt last offseason, so I didn’t really get to train much until I came here for OTAs,” he stated. “I feel so much better just being able to work out and stuff in February and March; I don’t want to say it’s been more fun.”

He admitted that it has been enjoyable to work with the team’s strength and conditioning personnel once again.

He remarked, “You know we compete here, we compete in the weight room.” Being around by people who are constantly striving for improvement is enjoyable for someone who is competitive. However, I firmly believe that this year and previous year are different.

Kincaid stated that improving his nutrition was just as important to him as working out in the weight room in order to gain strength over the offseason. Additionally, he stated that he has concentrated on improving against man and press defenders.

The biggest adjustments he had to make from his rookie season to his sophomore one were, “especially guys coming up and trying to press you, slow you down, and kind of throw off your rhythm and routes.”

Prior to the end of the press conference, a question concerning Kincaid’s acceptance of Brady’s offense’s “everybody eats” mentality in light of his new leadership position was posed. However, the tight end responded to the inquiry with grace.

It’s just this team’s culture. He responded, “It’s simply a bunch of selfless individuals that want to win. “That comes from just doing whatever is asked of you to help the team win,” the speaker said.
