An NFL writer has expressed strong confidence in Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills’ offense as they head into the 2024 season

It is difficult to doubt an offense led by one of the premier quarterbacks in the game. On April 26th, 2018, the Buffalo Bills made a pivotal decision by trading up from the 12th to the 7th pick with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to select quarterback Josh Allen. The Bills had struggled to find a franchise quarterback since the days of Jim Kelly and Doug Flutie. Although Tyrod Taylor had some success in the previous two seasons, he was not seen as the long-term solution. Head coach Sean McDermott, entering his second year, was eager to capitalize on a draft class featuring notable quarterback talent such as Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Lamar Jackson, and ultimately, Josh Allen, the best of the class.

Allen faced his share of challenges early on, including turnovers and a less-than-ideal team situation. Despite these obstacles, he displayed flashes of potential. With a weak offensive line and subpar wide receivers, Allen still managed to showcase his talent. By 2019, with a stronger supporting cast, he improved significantly and led the Bills to the playoffs, though they were defeated in an overtime thriller by the Houston Texans in the wild card round.

In 2020, Allen’s performance put the NFL on notice. If not for Aaron Rodgers’ exceptional MVP season with the Packers, Allen would have been a strong contender for the MVP award. He made a significant leap in his third year, guiding the Bills to their first division title in 25 years and an appearance in the AFC Championship game.

Since then, Allen has cemented his status as one of the league’s top quarterbacks, consistently keeping the Bills’ offense among the best. The 2024 season will see a different offensive lineup. Stefon Diggs has been traded to Houston, Gabe Davis signed with Jacksonville in free agency, and center Mitch Morse was also released and signed with Jacksonville. General Manager Brandon Beane has assembled an intriguing wide receiver group, including Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Chase Claypool, Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Justin Shorter, with Shakir being the only one who caught a pass from Allen last season.

Despite these significant changes, Gennaro Filice of NFL.com believes the Bills will maintain a top-ten offense in 2024. Filice ranked the Bills as the 8th best offense, ahead of the Houston Texans and the Indianapolis Colts, primarily due to the “Josh Allen effect.” Allen has led the NFL in total touchdowns since 2020, with 174, and remains one of the highest-rated quarterbacks.

Allen’s dynamic athleticism and ability to overcome defenders make him a formidable presence on the field. Even as he ages, he shows no signs of slowing down. Filice’s analysis highlights confidence in the Bills’ offense for the upcoming season, despite the extensive changes made in the offseason.
