Under intense pressure in Nick Sirianni’s fourth NFL season are the Philadelphia Eagles

The 2024 NFL season will bring with it high expectations for the Philadelphia Eagles, led by head coach Nick Sirianni, who will be in his fourth season. For the past ten years and more, Philadelphia has accepted the notion that it will either win the Super Bowl or fail. In the franchise’s history, they have only won one Super Bowl, which came against the New England Patriots in 2017.

Two seasons prior, Philadelphia faced the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, a game they lost. With a wealth of talent returning to the roster, the Philadelphia Eagles aim to capture the NFC East championship this season.

According to Pro Football Focus, one of the seven NFL teams with the greatest pressure to succeed this season is the Philadelphia Eagles, led by Nick Sirianni.

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of seven NFL clubs that, according to Pro Football Focus writer Bradley Locker, will need to produce this season. Philadelphia only managed an 11-6 record at the end of the previous season, despite starting 10-1. Locker stated:

“After making it to Super Bowl 57, the Eagles delivered an encore that certainly wouldn’t have won an Oscar. The team started a near-perfect 10-1 but imploded down the stretch, dropping six of its last seven, including an ugly wild-card loss to the Buccaneers.

Philly’s defense was a black hole for much of the year, ranking 28th in PFF coverage grade. Consequently, general manager Howie Roseman drafted defensive backs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean with his top two selections. Beyond that, the Eagles hired revered defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, replacing the makeshift tandem of Sean Desai and Matt Patricia.

The team’s offense was also regularly a mess down the stretch, with five of its seven lowest-graded overall offensive showings coming in Week 13 or later. As a result, Philadelphia swapped Brian Johnson for the well-traveled but young Kellen Moore.

In the beginning of the post-Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox days, will the Eagles return to their magnificent 2022 form, or will Nick Sirianni — one of the more polarizing coaches in the league — get the boot? What happens in Philadelphia this fall will be a focal point for this NFL season and beyond.”

This club will suffer greatly from losing Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox in the Eagles locker room. The Philadelphia Eagles have quality on both sides of the ball, so even though they will be missed, this season won’t be defined by them.

This year, Nick Sirianni’s coaching will be the main area of concern. Will he mature and stop being an idiot and acting like a child, or was the conclusion of the previous season a foreshadowing of things to come for the franchise? Howie Roseman, the general manager, and Nick Sirianni won’t be around after this season if what transpired at the close of the previous year is any indication of what’s to come.

The Philadelphia Eagles switched coordinators during the offseason before this. Vic Fangio will serve as the defensive coordinator and Kellen Moore as the offensive coordinator. QB Jalen Hurts is another aspect of this season that is riding high. Will he improve or will he keep getting worse? With his play, time will tell.
