CBS Sports writer disrespects James Cook in latest RB rankings list

It appears that occasionally in 2023, someone was not watching the Bills.

It seems like we are both so close and so far away from training camp opening. The good news is that the Buffalo Bills will report to St. John’s Fisher College for training camp in less than a month. Before you know it, the Bills will be taking the field to play the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1. The rankings lists for every position going into the 2024 season are released at this time of year. There are differing opinions expressed, but the good news is that what transpires on the field is all that counts.

Seeing these position rankings from different writers and analysts is also intriguing since it shows who gets ranked correctly and who is ranked higher or lower than they should be. CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell focused on the running back position when compiling a list of the top 20 rankings. We are all aware that Christian McCaffrey is the clear front-runner on this list. It’s not even up for debate. Respectfully included on the list were guys like Derrick Henry, Kyren Williams, and Jahmyr Gibbs; nevertheless, Podell erred greatly in regards to James Cook of the Bills.

Cook was listed among athletes like David Montgomery, Rhamondre Stevenson, and Alvin Kamara as an honorable mention. In actuality, Jaylen Warren, the running back for the Steelers, outperformed Cook in terms of total yards.

Cook has a huge year ahead of him in 2024, a year away from his contract year with the Bills, and last season the Bills had a running back rush for over 1,000 yards for the first time since LeSean McCoy. Cook has the potential to be a huge asset for the Bills not just in the rushing attack but also in the receiving game towards the end of the last campaign. With Josh Allen at quarterback, Bills supporters should be eager to see what Cook can accomplish in his second season as a full-time starter in Joe Brady’s offense.
