In its farm system, the Boston Red Sox have assembled a talented group of players, with names like Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, and Kyle Teel becoming well-known to baseball fans.
Kristian Campbell might be joining that list shortly.
Following the release of Baseball America’s updated 2024 Top 100 Prospects list, the Red Sox were well-represented once more.
Luis Perales, who had been ranked No. 57, fell after it was revealed that he had undergone Tommy John surgery.
Campbell doesn’t really waste time; when the Red Sox selected him in the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft, he needed less than a calendar year to get to Double-A Portland. Since being promoted in the first week of June, he has excelled, batting.400 with a 1.130 OPS and four home runs in his first 23 games.
Although a promotion for the center fielder/second baseman is unlikely to happen anytime soon, Mayer’s upcoming promotion might provide a fresh space in “The Big Three” with Teel and Anthony.
