Mason Greenwood’s sale is progressing swiftly as his preferred buyer made a sizable offer to Manchester United, according a report.
Notwithstanding the fact that Greenwood successfully rebuilt his career during a loan stint with Getafe last season, Man Utd has chosen to sell the gifted 22-year-old.
On the balance sheet, the money from Greenwood’s sale will be shown as pure profit. Because of this, Man Utd will have a lot more financial capacity if and when Greenwood leaves.
The team is looking to make a permanent exit, and Lazio has already submitted a formal bid.
The massive Serie A bid was €20 million (£17 million), with a 50% sell-on clause on behalf of Manchester United.
However, Lazio’s approach was rejected because Manchester United was looking to pay upwards of £30 million for the player and needed the money right away.
Gianluca Di Marzio of Sky Italia said that Marseille has ‘forcefully’ entered the competition to sign Greenwood.
Marseille is now “very confident” that a transaction will be finalized swiftly because they “presented an offer higher than Lazio’s.”
It’s unclear exactly how much Marseille has offered, but it’s certain that it exceeds Lazio’s.
It is unclear if the offer will be sufficient to complete Greenwood’s transfer. Man Utd would be better served by a swift departure so they can concentrate more on pursuing the several players they themselves are interested in.
At Old Trafford, midfielders Manuel Ugarte and Joshua Zirkzee, forward Joshua Zirkzee, and center backs Jarrad Branthwaite and Matthijs De Ligt are all desired.
If the selling clubs stick to their goal valuations, signing the quartet may cost a total of £200 million.
How ambitious United can be in their summer window will depend greatly on the sales of players like Greenwood, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, and Jadon Sancho.
