Red Sox Swap Minor League Arms In Deal With Tigers

The Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers finalized a minor league deal a few hours after the team’s 14-4 loss to the Yankees.

According to a team release, Boston sent right-hander CJ Weins back to Detroit in exchange for right-hander Trey Wingenter.

Weins was a member of the Red Sox system for less than a year. In 2024, the sixth-round draft pick from 2023 made it to Low-A Salem, where he faced 29 batters in 19 games. He
After a four-year absence from the major leagues, Wingenter, 30, returned to the big leagues with the Tigers. In 26 appearances with Triple-A Toledo this season, the righty posted a 3.31 ERA.

Right now, the Red Sox lead the Tigers by 8 1/2 games in the American League wild-card standings. Earlier in the season, the teams played a four-game series at Fenway Park and split.
