“Tiger Woods declines opportunity to lead 2025 US Ryder Cup squad.”

Tiger Woods has opted out of consideration to lead the 2025 United States Ryder Cup team, with the announcement of the new captain scheduled for Tuesday.

Woods, aged 48, was widely anticipated to take on this role for the first time at Bethpage Black in September 2025. However, the 15-time major champion has reportedly declined the offer to captain the US team, which is aiming to regain the Ryder Cup from Europe in New York.

Woods is currently focusing significant time away from the course on the PGA Tour’s negotiations with LIV Golf’s backers, the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Additionally, his new venture, TGL, alongside Rory McIlroy, will commence in January 2025, demanding much of his attention.

Following ankle surgery last season, Woods has participated in only four tournaments this season. While he maintains his ability to execute shots, he has acknowledged challenges in completing all 72 holes due to mobility issues.

Having withdrawn from the Genesis Invitational and finishing 60th at The Masters, Woods subsequently missed the cut at both the US PGA and US Open. His next appearance is scheduled for the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon in two weeks.

By declining the 2025 US Ryder Cup captaincy, Woods has opened opportunities for other contenders. Stewart Cink, Fred Couples, and Davis Love III are now considered frontrunners for the position. The PGA of America will officially announce their decision in New York on Tuesday, July 9th.

Meanwhile, Europe has confirmed that Luke Donald will serve as their captain once again at Bethpage Black.
