Alcaraz picks Djokovic over Nadal as tennis GOAT

Carlos Alcaraz surprised many by choosing Novak Djokovic above Rafael Nadal as the best tennis player of all time, citing Djokovic’s better record.

Despite joining up with Nadal for the Olympic doubles in Paris on July 27, and considering Nadal a hero, Alcaraz acknowledged Djokovic’s 24 Grand Slam singles championships to Nadal’s 22.

In an ATP Tour video, Alcaraz hesitated before saying, “As far as numbers, it’s Novak Djokovic.” He swiftly added that Federer and Nadal were also among the best for him. Nadal lauded Alcaraz and predicted a tremendous career for the young Spaniard if he stays injury-free.

He feels Alcaraz’s potential and present form make him a tournament favourite, which was not the case during the Big Three period, when Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic dominated different surfaces.

Alcaraz, a four-time major winner, has previously won majors on all three surfaces, including the US Open in 2022, the French Open in 2024, and back-to-back Wimbledon wins. Nadal emphasized that Alcaraz’s charisma and confidence at only 21 years old distinguished him as a rare talent in the tennis world.
