Key players like Derrick White and All-Star forward Jayson Tatum signed their individual contracts after the Boston Celtics won a ring recently. The team’s financial future is affected by their decision to extend Sam Hauser’s contract.

Hauser’s position as a vital member of the squad that won the title was cemented when the Celtics and the sharpshooter agreed to a four-year, $45 million contract extension. After going undrafted out of Virginia in 2021, Hauser became an indispensable member of the Celtics’ team the previous season. He averaged a career-high 9.0 points per game and shot 42.4% from outside the arc, which was good for 11th place in the NBA.

Hauser’s contract with Boston will be extended until the 2028–2029 season; the first year’s salary will be $2 million before the extension begins. With his ability to distribute the floor and make 3-pointers, Hauser was a valuable addition to his All-Star colleagues Derrick White and Jayson Tatum, who have also decided to extend their contracts with the Celtics this summer.

Hauser, a 6’8′′ forward, gives the Celtics size and shooting ability at the forward position. His incredible 10-point, 3-point shooting display against the Washington Wizards in less than 23 minutes during the previous season demonstrated his exceptional outside shooting ability. The Celtics have now secured the contracts of a number of important members of their championship-contending team, guaranteeing stability and consistency as they aim to improve on their 2023–24 Finals run.

The front staff of the Celtics attempted to get new contracts for Hauser and other important players throughout the offseason. NBA source Bobby Marks said in a tweet on X that Boston’s choice to extend him will have an effect on the team’s financial situation.

Boston’s luxury tax liability is anticipated to increase with the signing of Hauser to a new contract; for the 2025–2026 season, the franchise is forecast to owe $210 million in taxes in addition to $225 million in salaries. The strategy probably calls for cutting salaries—like Kristaps Porzingis’ contract—in order to eventually revert to the second apron line.

Whether Boston’s choice to continue with the majority of their roster from the previous season will pay off in the long run is yet to be seen. Many Celtics supporters will, meanwhile, be watching Hauser to see if he proves to be deserving of his new contract.
