Tigers Win Shutout as Guardians Offense Fails Again

The Cleveland Guardians have played a bit erratically in the previous few games.

They had won two straight before Thursday’s game, but they had lost seven of their previous nine games.

In an attempt to make it three consecutive wins, the Detroit Tigers stood in their way, blanking Cleveland 3-0 to force a series draw.

It would be accurate to say that Guardians starting Gavin Williams had just one costly error when he let up a three-run home run to Tigers shortstop Javier Baez in the second inning, which was all the team needed to overcome Cleveland.

The Tigers bullpen, led by Tyler Holton, Easton Lucas, Alex Faedo, Jason Foley, Andrew Chafin, and Shelby Miller, shut down Cleveland’s lineup with only four hits, making it impossible for the ice-cold Guardians offense to score runs.

Cleveland was only able to muster one walk while racking up ten strikeouts.

For the Guards, things are starting to get concerning: in their last six games, they have scored a total of 10 runs, five of which came in a single match.

The Guards’ batting order was above average for the majority of the first half, not just passable.

Although they have been in decline for some time, one can’t help but wonder whether the team may attempt to enhance before the trade deadline of July 30.
