Eagles Bolster Offensive Line with Veteran Addition During Training Camp

Nick Gates, an experienced interior offensive lineman, has signed with the Eagles.

This is the Eagles’ latest attempt to add depth to their offensive line, as five training camp practices have already passed.

The Eagles responded by cutting cornerback Mario Goodrich, who had actually made the 53-man roster coming out of training camp the previous year.

After going undrafted out of Nebraska in 2018, Gates, 28, has appeared in 57 games with 39 starts throughout his five-year NFL career with the Giants and Commanders.

The Eagles’ interior offensive line has suffered a couple injuries in recent days. Right guard Mekhi Becton has been starting in place of Tyler Steen (ankle), while rookie Trevor Keegan took Landon Dickerson’s position after the latter had to leave practice early on Tuesday due to what seemed to be a leg ailment.

Since signing Matt Hennessy in free agency throughout the offseason, the Eagles have been bolstering their offensive line depth. Then, on Day 3, they selected Keegan and Dylan McMahon, and in June, they added veteran Max Scharping.

The Eagles are currently struggling at a position, so this is a move to add some depth.
