Carlos Alcaraz why his latest Davis Cup win was one of his ‘best matches played this season’

Carlos Alcaraz was thrilled with his latest Davis Cup effort as Spain won their second group stage tie.

The 21-year-old and colleague Roberto Bautista Agut both won their singles match to give their country an unassailable 2-0 lead against France.

The doubles match, which their opponents won, was only a consolation as Spain won 2-1 to advance to the Davis Cup final eight.

Now that they are one step closer, Carlos Alcaraz and Spain can try to win the coveted team event for the first time since 2019.

Carlos Alcaraz made a statement regarding his most recent Davis Cup performance.

Alcaraz has not played his best tennis since losing to Novak Djokovic in a close Olympic final in July.

After making his Olympic Games debut, he had only won once before the Davis Cup, but this week, while playing for his nation, he won two straight singles matches.

In their second career match, Alcaraz defeated Ugo Humbert of France 6-3, 6-3, to complement his victory over Tomas Machac.

The four-time Grand Slam winner gave off a far more at ease appearance on the tennis court and displayed the kind of play that supporters have come to expect from him.

Alcaraz gave his performance an extremely high rating. “I was happy with my performance from the first to the last ball. I was totally concentrated. During his on-court interview, he stated, “It was a high level of tennis.”

“I was incredibly intense.” Easily among the best games I’ve played so far this year. I need these kinds of matches because this is my last month. I’m quite pleased with how I performed today.

Who will Carlos Alcaraz and Spain play in the Davis Cup next?

Though Spain have already qualified for the Davis Cup final 8 in November, they can still play for the opportunity to finish top of their group.

Following a 3-0 win over Czechia and beating France 2-1, Spain will face Australia on Sunday for the chance to finish the group stage undefeated.

Australia also won their first two group matches by the same score lines as Spain and they will face the task of trying to defeat their next opposition in front of their home fans.

Spain are trying to win the Davis Cup for the seventh time, while Australia are going for their 29th title and a first since 2003.
