ATP player Martin Klizan has discussed what makes Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic distinct from one another, despite the fact that both players are recognized for being extremely tough opponents.
Klizan is making a return to the ATP Tour after a three-year hiatus. The Slovakian has won six career ATP titles and climbed as high as career-high World No. 24.
According to Klizan, facing every player would necessitate a different strategy.
With 22 and 24 Major singles titles won, respectively, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic are the most successful male tennis players in history in terms of Grand Slam accomplishments. The pair has played each other 60 times, making their rivalry the most in the history of the ATP Tour.
Klizan went into further detail about the distinctions between playing against both players in an interview with Punto de Break. The Slovakian made clear that in order to compete against any of the two tennis greats, a player must modify his style of play.
You can always count on Rafa to make the match unbearable for you. Nothing is free, Klizan declared. You are aware that you must hit shots with extreme precision when dealing with Novak because he will demolish you if you don’t. With Rafa you can fight, you can also hit winners.
“With Djokovic, it is difficult to hit winners, but you have to be very precise. The body serve must be used, and everything must be mixed with the slice; the strategies are slightly different.”
One of the rare players to have triumphed over both Djokovic and Nadal is Klizan, who beat the Serbian in three sets at the 2018 Barcelona Open and the Frenchman at the 2014 China Open.
