Wimbledon: Carlos Alcaraz slight favorite to repeat entering semis

Carlos Alcaraz remains the favorite to win the men’s title at Wimbledon, but the competition is intensifying. Alcaraz, who has needed 13 sets to get through his last three matches, is the +105 favorite at BetMGM. However, he must first overcome Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, who is the +250 underdog for their semifinal match on Friday. A victory for Medvedev would be significant, as Alcaraz has garnered 43.3 percent of all bets placed on the men’s title, far surpassing Novak Djokovic’s 21.3 percent.

Djokovic, a 24-time major champion, has had an easier path to his record-tying 13th semifinal appearance at Wimbledon. The 37-year-old Serbian, who recently underwent knee surgery, advanced to the semifinals after Australia’s Alex de Minaur withdrew from their quarterfinal match due to a hip injury. Djokovic, the overwhelming -750 favorite, will face No. 25 seed Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals. Djokovic’s odds of winning the men’s title are now +125, followed by Medvedev at +600 and Musetti at +1600.

Musetti, 22, joins an elite group of Italian men who have reached the Wimbledon semifinals, including Jannik Sinner (2023), Matteo Berrettini (2021), and Nicola Pietrangeli (1960). Musetti has twice pushed Djokovic to five sets in Grand Slam tournaments but has yet to defeat him. Reflecting on those matches, Musetti believes he has learned and improved, particularly in his attitude and consistency.

Medvedev’s performance has also influenced the tournament’s dynamics, as he defeated the top-ranked Jannik Sinner in a grueling five-set match. Alcaraz acknowledged Medvedev’s formidable skill and noted the challenge ahead, expressing confidence and determination to win.

Should both Alcaraz and Djokovic avoid upsets, they are on course for a rematch in the finals. Alcaraz triumphed over Djokovic in an epic five-set final last year, winning 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in nearly five hours. Fans are eagerly anticipating another thrilling showdown between the two tennis greats.
