Dallas Cowboys insider reveals surprise player ‘likely’ to start at left tackle in 2024

Tyron Smith, a future Hall of Fame left tackle, was allowed to walk through NFL free agency by the Dallas Cowboys, allowing him to depart the team. Although there is promise at the position going forward, one of the most important concerns about the Cowboys going into NFL training camp is: who will start at left tackle?

Many assumed that Dallas would go with Tyler Smith or Tyler Guyton as their new left tackle. When Smith was drafted in the 24th round of the 2022 NFL Draft, many believed he would have a bright future as an offensive tackle. Regarding Guyton, Dallas has particularly high expectations for him in the long run. He was selected with the 29th overall choice in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Nonetheless, Dallas said this summer that Smith will not be ready for the 2024 NFL season as an offensive lineman and will instead be a full-time left guard going forward. Although Guyton has a lot of potential, no one thought he was a pro-ready player going into the pre-draft phase. It can result in an unexpected name assuming control on the left side.

Chuma Edoga will win the left tackle position battle between the Cowboys and 105.3 The Fan’s Bobby Belt, according to a recent edition of “Love of the Star.”

“I believe Chuma Edoga will start at left tackle for the first practice. It seems likely that he will start the season at left tackle, and it’s even feasible that he will play that position all season long.

The 27-year-old Edoga joined the Cowboys roster the previous year. He was a third-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft and has made 19 starts in his 43 career games of play. Edoga played offensive tackle in 26 games before moving to Dallas, but he spent the previous campaign as a guard for the Cowboys.

Dallas is probably going to start the season with seasoned player Terance Steele at right tackle if he starts at left tackle. Guyton should have always been seen as a first-round pick with developmental potential who requires NFL instruction before being a starter, even if doing so would force him to the bench.
