NFL rumors: Cowboys prioritizing new CeeDee Lamb contract over Dak Prescott

CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott both require new contracts, but for one important reason, the Cowboys could handle Lamb’s case before Prescott’s.

The Dallas Cowboys will soon have to deal with two significant contract negotiations. It’s safe to say that wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott, two of their best players, are headed for significant salary increases. Both players need new contracts. It doesn’t appear like the team is getting close to having either of these people write anything down as of yet, though.

Given his status as a quarterback, Prescott’s contract has garnered a lot of interest; nevertheless, it doesn’t appear like the Cowboys front staff is now focused on him. That would be Lamb, for the simple reason that the team would prefer not to have him miss training camp.

“A source familiar with the Cowboys front office’s thinking claims that Lamb’s contract extension negotiations are taking precedence over quarterback Dak Prescott’s. Prescott is anticipated to participate in the summer’s first training camp practice on the field next Thursday. It’s unclear when Lamb will arrive in Southern California for his job. According to a source familiar with Lamb’s thoughts, he hasn’t decided definitively whether to stick with his holdout come training camp. — Dallas Morning News’ Calvin Watkins

Cowboys need to put in a lot of effort in dealing with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
Prescott does not now have the same power in his contract discussions as Lamb has because of the possibility that he will hold out. Lamb is entitled to a new contract after witnessing a few other wide receivers get paid this offseason. Judging by his 2023 output (135 REC, 1749 YDS, 12 TD), he should rank among the most paid receivers in the league.

Although Lamb’s holdout issue makes him a priority, Prescott’s agreement has been in the works for a while, so the Cowboys aren’t neglecting him entirely. One of the best quarterbacks in the game, Prescott will probably sign one of the largest contracts in NFL history when he finally does.

Although it would be ideal for both of these players to have extensions before the new season begins, it appears like Dallas will put most of its attention toward working with Lamb. It remains to be seen if they can finalize an extension before to training camp, but it is definitely worth keeping an eye on the situation over the coming days.
