Roman Anthony sets a record for HR and Marcelo Mayer is injured

Marcelo Mayer, a top prospect for the Boston Red Sox, was scratched from the Portland Sea Dogs game on July 30 and is now listed as injured for seven days.

After spending a week on the injured list, the shortstop, who has a hip issue, is anticipated to play again. Though Mayer’s spell on IL started on August 1, he was not in the lineup for Portland’s game on July 31.

A shoulder injury ended the 21-year-old’s 2023 season, but he had a successful comeback season this year. With an OPS of.850 and a batting line of.307/.370/.480, Mayer leads the Eastern League with 28 doubles.

For a while now, Red Sox fans have been clamoring for Mayer to be sent to Triple-A, and Brian Abraham, the team’s director of player development, has said Worcester should give the rookie shortstop a call soon. Mayer will now have to wait at least another week for the call, even though he has been in Portland since the previous season.

Roman Anthony creates Sea Dogs history, and Red Sox top prospect Marcelo Mayer is placed on injured leave due to a hip issue.

Roman Anthony is still a Portland Sea Dogs player, despite the fact that he sent out a misplaced tweet a few days ago that sent Red Sox supporters into a tailspin regarding the player’s future. Yesterday, he also broke the team record.

Anthony smashed the hardest-hit home run in Sea Dogs history, letting insiders and Red Sox fans worldwide know he still has his sights set on Boston. The shot that traveled at 116 miles per hour was also the hardest hit by any Red Sox player this season, including major league players.

Anthony has played in 75 games with Double-A Portland this season, posting a slash line of.254/.356/.477 and an OPS of.833. He’s hit 18 doubles, three triples, and 13 home runs. This year, Anthony, 20, emerged victorious in the inaugural All-Star Futures Skills Showcase, and much like Mayer, Red Sox Nation is urging Anthony to be called up to Triple-A.
