Carlos Alcaraz claimed that the growing tennis schedule will “kill” players. Jannik Sinner responded to these claims. The World No. 1’s straightforward message is that you are not required to play.
This follows some somewhat hypocritical remarks made by Alcaraz, considering that he has committed to participating in other optional tournaments, such as the Laver Cup last week. Additionally, he’ll travel to Beijing to compete in the China Open alongside Sinner.
Today, he and the World No. 1 found their draw fate. But after losing last week at the Laver Cup, he had some harsh words to say about the status of tennis today. With Alcaraz and Sinner scheduled to play until at least late November, this is something that WTA players frequently do but not ATP. Following Paris and Turin, both have committed to play in the Davis Cup.
“It’s likely that they’ll kill us in some fashion,” Alcaraz remarked at the Laver Cup. “A lot of people are injured right now. Many talented players will currently miss numerous tournaments as a result of that.”
“Yes, these years have gone so quickly, but you must make a decision. The US Open champion stated, “Of course there are required tournaments, but a player can still select.
You are free to play or not to play; the choice is entirely yours. For instance, there are decisions behind my decision to forego several events this year and last year in order to train. Naturally, the season is lengthy and difficult.
“I always strive to better myself both on and off the field by figuring out what works and what doesn’t.” The most exciting aspect for me is that there is still space for improvement.
