Carlos Alcaraz on Rafael Nadal’s Potential Retirement Following the Davis Cup: “Miss Him”

Nadal has said he expects to end his injury-plagued career this year after a hip injury that required surgery limited his appearances in 2023, and there has been speculation the Davis Cup could be his last event.

“It’s always great having Rafa around. I miss him. I’m not going to lie, I missed him in the Laver Cup. Obviously, as much time as I can spend with him, it’s a privilege for me,” said Alcaraz, who partnered Nadal in doubles at the Paris Games.

After a hip ailment that necessitated surgery curtailed his appearances in 2023, Rafael Nadal announced that he expected to terminate his injury-plagued career this year. There have been rumors that the Davis Cup may be Nadal’s final tournament.

Rafa Nadal was added to Spain’s Davis Cup squad for the quarterfinals in November, and Carlos Alcaraz expressed his optimism that the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s career would not come to an end at the Malaga tournament.

Nadal was an unexpected selection for the Final 8 on November 19–24. Due to physical concerns, the 38-year-old missed this month’s Laver Cup and the U.S. Open after competing at the July Olympics in Paris.

Rafa’s presence is always very appreciated. I long for him. To be honest, I didn’t see him in the Laver Cup. Obviously, I consider it a joy to spend as much time as I do with him,” Alcaraz, who played doubles with Rafael Nadal at the Paris Games, remarked.
