In a remarkable testament to his on-field prowess and off-field contributions, Las Vegas Raiders running back Alexander Mattison has been honored with the prestigious Craig Long Award. This accolade is presented annually to the Raiders player who exemplifies professionalism and collaboration with the media, reflecting the values upheld by the late Craig Long, a cherished member of the Raiders’ Public Relations staff from 1997 to 2004.
In his inaugural season with the Raiders, Mattison has emerged as a pivotal player, leading the team’s rushing efforts with 400 yards and four touchdowns. His versatility is further highlighted by his 32 receptions, amassing 283 yards and an additional touchdown. Beyond his statistical contributions, Mattison’s professionalism and approachability have made a significant impact on both teammates and the media community.
Reflecting on the honor, Mattison stated, “Being named the recipient of the Craig Long Award is a profound honor. I strive to represent the Raiders organization with integrity and to foster positive relationships within our community.”
The Craig Long Award, named in memory of Craig Long who passed away in 2007 at the age of 36, celebrates players who embody the spirit of cooperation and professionalism that Long was known for during his tenure with the Raiders. Mattison joins a distinguished list of past recipients, including T Jermaine Eluemunor (2023), RB Josh Jacobs (2022), and DE Maxx Crosby (2021).
Beyond his on-field achievements, Mattison has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to community service. Through his I AM GIFTED Foundation, he has initiated programs aimed at uplifting underserved communities. Notably, he hosted a back-to-school event benefiting over 250 children in Minnesota, providing them with essential supplies and words of encouragement. He emphasized the importance of mental health, sharing, “I encourage mental health practices because I have personally experienced how hard life realistically is.”
In recognition of his community efforts, Mattison was named the NFLPA Community MVP for Week 4 of the 2024 season. He treated two families in need to a special Raiders game experience, complete with VIP access and financial assistance. “Through my charitable efforts, I aim to uplift and empower individuals and families, creating moments and opportunities that leave a lasting impact,” Mattison remarked.
