In advance of Lewis Hamilton’s planned departure from Mercedes for Ferrari in the upcoming season, Jacques Villeneuve has voiced some reservations about the seven-time Formula 1 world champion’s disposition and frame of mind. Villeneuve has stated that Hamilton is “not in a good place” at the moment.
After 11 years at Mercedes, Hamilton is expected to join Ferrari for the upcoming season. The British driver is looking to win a record-breaking eighth Formula 1 world championship. But when Hamilton crashed out of the US Grand Prix, Villeneuve worries that he is distracted.
Villeneuve has also asked Hamilton to reconsider his strategy before finalizing his move to Ferrarie. Villeneuve stated in an interview with Canada Casino: “I don’t believe Lewis is considering Ferrari.
“He is reflecting on how terrible things are for him. He had never really gone off in a race before then. He’s not doing well at all. His driving is suffering as a result. Before he visits Ferrari, he needs to change his perspective.
“Having a lot of races back-to-back is difficult. You really don’t have time to change, yet he didn’t return much better after his three weeks vacation. He will be pleased that Ferrari is a better vehicle than Mercedes, but I have no idea what’s going through his mind.
“He needs to be thrilled about getting a faster car, but overall, his behavior suggests he lacks the body language of a race winner. We haven’t seen a lethal winner like him before.
“He needs to get back to his old form and attitude before he moves because Ferrari is not an easy team to be in.” “I had a great start, obviously shot up the inside and got up to 12th,” Hamilton said after crashing out in Texas.
It was only the second lap at that point, so I wasn’t pushing hard or going all out; I was just trying to control the tires. On the way in, the automobile began to bounce, but suddenly it lost all of its rear end and simply circled me.
“I have never spun in the race before, not that I remember at least, and if I have it can only be once, maybe, before in all these years, so definitely frustrating but I do know that it is not that I was not focussed or anything, it was just unfortunate.”
