Vonn, who has a history of injuries, emphasized the importance of safety, stating, “For me, I’ve had so many injuries, I don’t need to risk anything today.” She further criticized race organizers for not heeding warnings about the course’s safety, noting that forerunners, including teammate Julia Mancuso, had crashed during test runs, signaling potential dangers. “The problem is a lot of times people mistake our opinions as just whining,” Vonn remarked. “We’re women and we’re whining and we just need to suck it up and race, and that’s not the case.”

In a previous event in La Thuile, Italy, Vonn posted a video on social media showing her destroying her ski bindings with a hammer after a downhill race where one of her skis detached. However, she later issued a public apology, stating, “This was a huge mistake born out of the frustrating race I had today and was in no way, shape or form a reflection on the performance of the Head race team and the Head skis and bindings which I race on and which have been instrumental in my success.” She acknowledged that her emotions got the best of her and emphasized the importance of careful communication, especially on social media.
