In a significant development for the New Orleans Saints, star running back Alvin Kamara has secured his future with the team by signing a two-year contract extension worth $24.5 million, with $22 million guaranteed and an additional $1.5 million in incentives. This agreement extends Kamara’s tenure through the 2026 season, aligning with his expressed desire to retire as a Saint.
Kamara, who has been a pivotal figure in the Saints’ offense since being drafted in the third round in 2017, has consistently demonstrated his value on the field. In the current season, he has amassed 438 rushing yards and six touchdowns, along with 34 receptions for 252 yards and an additional touchdown.
The journey to this extension was not without its challenges. Earlier in the offseason, Kamara left the final practice of mandatory minicamp due to contract-related issues, signaling his desire for a restructured deal. Despite these tensions, he reported to training camp on time and participated fully, emphasizing his commitment to the team.
Throughout the negotiation process, Kamara remained vocal about his intention to remain in New Orleans. In July, he stated, “I’ve said it before: I want to be a Saint. I want to retire here.”
This extension not only secures Kamara’s future with the Saints but also provides the team with financial flexibility. According to reports, the deal frees up $18 million against the 2025 salary cap, offering the Saints additional resources to build a competitive roster around their star running back.
