Just Now: Maple Leafs provide updates on several player injuries

The Toronto Maple Leafs have issued many updates regarding key players who have been hurt or missed practice.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are suffering from numerous injuries. Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe provided updates on a few players as the team prepares for its final regular-season games and playoffs. Several players did not practice on Monday, raising concerns about their status in the last several games.

First, forward Max Domi is expected to miss the final two regular-season games due to an unexplained ailment. Although Domi’s issue has been persistent, aggravating slightly in recent games, Keefe believes it will not impede his availability for the postseason. Domi’s late-season play has been noticeable, particularly after his promotion to the first line alongside Auston Matthews and Tyler Bertuzzi. He has 47 points in 80 games this season, including 37 assists at even strength.

Meanwhile, Bobby McMann will miss the final two regular-season games due to a lower-body ailment, and his status for the first playoff game versus the Panthers is questionable. He got injured during a game against the Detroit Red Wings last week.

Winger Calle Järnkrok‘s potential participation in Game 1 remains undecided as he continues his recovery from a hand injury. Järnkrok, who hasn’t played since mid-March, remains a day-to-day consideration for the lineup.

Maple Leafs’ Defense Has Been Hit By Injuries Too

On defense, Joel Edmundson’s status for the upcoming game against the Florida Panthers will be determined by the medical staff. Edmundson, who was acquired at the trade deadline, has spent the majority of his time with the Leafs sidelined due to an unexplained injury. He practiced on Monday. Keefe went on to say, “We’ll see where he’s at tomorrow just to be sure, but practice today was a positive sign for him.”

With Domi and McMann out for the last regular-season games and Järnkrok’s future uncertain, the Leafs’ bottom-six forward group is thin. Edmundson’s availability will be assessed closer to the game time.

Some of these decisions to sit players are regarded to be more of a preventative measure to ensure that the majority, if not all, are prepared for the playoffs.
